To the Parents, Guardians, and Students of the Odyssey Community,

Odyssey Charter Schools, along with the rest of our nation and state, have been striving to find the best way to open schools in the Fall.  Our greatest priority is the safety and health of our whole Odyssey Community.  That is closely followed by our unwavering goal to foster each student’s academic achievement and life success.  We feel Odyssey is uniquely equipped to serve students under these exceptional circumstances.  Odyssey has been serving students and families using a blended learning approach for 21 years. We need to make some minor modifications to our school model to meet the changing direction of our Governor, Nevada Department of Education, and Southern Nevada Health District, but it will not greatly impact our longstanding, tested, and successful curriculum and student support.

While we will give you the details of Odyssey’s 2020-2021 Fall Opening Plan, in a brief summary, here is how Odyssey will open in the Fall:

Normally, Odyssey students access most of their classes and curriculum online, with one required day on-campus to support student learning. On August 10, 2020, Odyssey will open with students still accessing all of their classes and curriculum online. ALL students will have daily access to their teachers through scheduled online classes and virtual support labs.  Students will also connect with their teachers through email, moodle messages, and telephone calls.

Students who need additional support and assistance, academic interventions, specialized services, or some extra help from their teachers will have the option to schedule a time to come on-campus to work with their teachers in person.

For students coming on campus, all appropriate safety measures will be taken, including the wearing of face masks, taking temperatures, limiting the number of people in a shared space, social distancing, limiting the mixing between groups, and following enhanced cleaning protocols.

Odyssey’s Back-To-School Orientation will be online this year. Students and parents/guardians must complete the orientation requirement any time beginning Tuesday, August 4th through Friday, August 7th. During this orientation, each of your schools’ principals will give you a detailed account of the plan for your school. They will talk about the schedule for online classes and virtual support labs, how to schedule time on-campus, drop-off and pick-up procedures, health and safety procedures, and all of the other information you need to know. Please watch your mailbox for a letter from your principal in the next two weeks giving you more specific details.

We understand that many of you will have questions after receiving this letter.  Please submit those questions to info@odysseyk12.org and we will respond as soon as possible.

We will continue to monitor the Governor’s Phases of Opening, the Nevada Department of Education, and the Southern Nevada Health District so that we continue to put safety first.  Odyssey has high hopes to return to our regular school schedule in the spring.

We are looking forward to a great 2020-2021 school year starting on August 10, 2020.  Please note, this is a different start date than the Clark County School District!
