In Odyssey’s Elementary School, the parent/guardian works hand-in-hand with our licensed teaching professionals to educate their children. Our recognition that every student and family is unique and our unwavering commitment to the success of every student make Odyssey a special place for learning.
Odyssey Elementary School pledges to provide for our students and families the following three things:
An engaging and customized Kindergarten through 5th grade curriculum.
Instruction that fosters analytical thinking, problem solving, communication skills, academic stamina, perseverance and creativity.
A personalized educational experience in which the teacher, student, and family work together to achieve academic growth for the student.
Students complete much of their work each week online. But, at Odyssey, we blend online work with face-to-face meetings.
Teachers meet with every student, once per week in a small group format. The small group meetings occur at libraries, coffee houses, or other suitable public locations. The meetings are scheduled for two hours. Parents may be asked to join their student for the entire small group visit or for a portion of the meeting. Regardless of the amount of time a parent spends at the visit, the teacher conferences with each parent about the student’s progress and assignments every week either in person or by phone or email. The small group meeting and the parent/teacher conference are mandatory weekly requirements for Odyssey’s program. At the beginning of the year, the teacher and families will confer to establish suitable meeting times and locations.
In addition to the small group meetings, whole group class meetings occur on Odyssey’s campus once per month. These weekly classes are fun, engaging, and support the academic work that the students are completing each week with hands-on activities. At these group classes, the students perform labs, make presentations, meet industry professionals, and, of course, engage with their peers about their learning. The students have the opportunity to work with their own teacher, as well as interact with other Odyssey instructors. (All Kindergarten students will be enrolled in Kinder Kids and will attend a group class on campus each week as well as their small group meeting in their neighborhood library.)
Additional learning opportunities in the form of literacy labs, interventions and Parents as Teacher (PAT) classes are also available.
Odyssey has developed categories of family support called The Pathways to Success to identify when assistance, resources and support are needed. An important piece of this plan is an additional weekly one-on-one conference with the parent, teacher, and student, when appropriate. Odyssey is excited to be able to offer this level of teacher, parent, and student engagement. Please find a more thorough description of the Pathways to Success by clicking here.
