FAFSA and Promise Dates to be Completed

If you have not filled out your FAFSA, please do so ASAP if you plan on attending a trade school or college next school year.  Below are the instructions to do so.  Also, if you are working on the Promise Scholarship, please make sure you have the FAFSA Submission Summary email that states when you submitted your FAFSA and that the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is listed as one of your colleges.  The deadline for completing the FAFSA for the Promise is April 1st. If you do not have a social security number, you must complete the Non-FAFSA Filer Declaration Form instead of the FAFSA for the Promise by April 1st.

FAFSA

1). You and your parents have to get an FSA ID at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch and click  “Get Started.”  If your parent/guardian already has an FSA ID, then they will use their prior FSA ID.  If they cannot remember it, then they can go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing and click either forgot MY Password or Forgot My Username or both.   Please store your username and password in a secure spot. You will need to resubmit the FAFSA each year you are in college or trade school.

2). Once you have created your FSA ID, you will go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing and log in with your Username, Telephone Number, or Email and your password.

3). Your parent/guardian will receive an email from you that was generated by you when you filled out your portion of the FAFSA.  Once your parent gets this email, they must log into FAFSA; your parent or guardian will log into the FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing and log in with their Username, Telephone Number, or Email, and their password, not yours. Once on the form, your parent/guardian will complete it. Your and your parent’s sections must be submitted for your FAFSA to be completed and processed.
