The Academic Success Center at UNLV is currently accepting applications for the Hixson-Lied Scholarship Program. The Hixson-Lied Scholarship Program helps make a difference in the lives of students by providing both financial and academic support through the Academic Success Center. It provides students the following:
- A scholarship in the amount of $1,250 per semester for up to eight semesters ($2,500.00 per year)
- Enrollment at UNLV’s Academic Success Center Bridge Programs
- Access to the Hixson-Lied Report
- Access to an ASC Academic Success Coach and Hixson-Lied Success Mentor
- The ability to Make a Difference by serving a peer mentors and role models
Students qualify for the Hixson-Lied Success Scholars Program by:
- Being admissible to UNLV and have a 3.0 grade point average and be a full-time undergraduate student (12 credits/semester)
- Being classified as a resident of Nevada according to UNLV’s residency requirements
- Display financial need based upon Pell Grant Standards (Complete a FAFSA application)
- Demonstrating academic, personal, and/or financial challenges as documented in the application essay and by reference
- Demonstrating the potential to succeed academically
- Submitting all components of the Hixson-Lied Success Scholars Program application
- Meeting certain requirements to continue scholarship eligibility after becoming a Hixson-Lied Success Scholar, which includes maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA
To apply, students must:
- Apply to UNLV online at: http://web.unlv.edu/admissions/apply.html
- Complete the Hixson_Lied Success Scholars application, available on line at: hyyp://academicsuccess.unlv.edu
- Complete the FAFSA application online at: www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Write a two page typed, double-spaced, essay demonstrating academic, personal, and/or financial challenges
- Provide names and telephone number of two references, preferably teachers or school personnel (letters not required)
- Engage in an -n-person interview (if invited by the selection committee)
- Submit application components to the Academic Success Center (Attention: Hixson Lied Success Scholarship Program), 4505 S. Maryland Parkway, Box 452001, Las Vegas, NV 89154-2001 or fax to (702) 895-4427
Application deadline is Monday, April 28, 2014. Late applications will not be accepted.
