Service and Leadership Programs

  • Peace Corps: International Organization: established to promote world peace and friendship. Currently, 7,000 Peace Corps volunteers are serving in 70 countries working to bring clean water to communities, teach children, help start new businesses and stop the spread of AIDS. Volunteers receive intensive language and cross-culture training.
  • Corporation for National and Community Service: Service organization. Helps strengthen communities through Americorps and Learn and Serve America programs. Opportunities to provide service in Wisconsin include: The Wisconsin Association for Runaway Services; United Way of Dane County; Children’s Outing Association; Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin and more.
  • Earthwatch Institute: International, non-profit organization. The mission of the Earthwatch Institute is to promote sustainable conservation of our natural resources by creating partnerships between scientists, educators, and the general public. Volunteer field opportunities available.
  • National Outdoor Leadership School: A leader in wilderness education. Teaches outdoor skills, and leadership through wilderness courses including the Professional Training Institute and the Wilderness Medicine Institute. Employment and volunteer opportunities available.
  • Habitat for Humanity: A non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing organization. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world. Volunteers needed to help construct decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.   • American Field Service Intercultural Programs: Non-profit organization dedicated to intercultural education exchange. Opportunities to travel worldwide.
  • Outward Bound: A skill-based program offering wilderness courses with an emphasis on environmental stewardship and leadership development. Opportunities include: Mountaineering, Canoeing, Biking, Rock Climbing, Rafting, and more.
  • Interlochen: Located in New Hampshire. An innovative program designed to provide high school graduates with an exciting alternative to entering college immediately following high school. The program focuses on career exploration, wilderness adventures, cross-cultural immersion, and experiential education.
