Welcome Odyssey Families!

It is a pleasure for us to open our fifteenth year at Odyssey Charter School with so many great things to share.  Our “Owl Pride” is stronger than ever and 2014-2015 is going to be a phenomenal year.  Strong and Caring Staff + Involved Families = Success, and it is this equation that allows Odyssey to offer a one of a kind school experience year after year.

So what’s new for 2014- 2015?  We now have a complete on campus Middle School program with the 6th grade students joining us for their first year. The 6th grade is staffed by some of your favorite veteran Odyssey teachers.  Based upon last year’s successful transition of our 7th grade students to campus, we can already predict how well this year will go.

We have also found a way to have families experience the best that our staff has to offer by further customizing the K-5 program.  Families with siblings in both K-2 and 3-5 will have two teachers with whom to work and a rich curriculum focused specifically on the primary or intermediate grades.

As Odyssey continues to grow we also continue to hire the BEST instructors in the valley.  We welcome Mr. Lanny Badger and Ms. Joyce Cummings to our Middle School team and Mr. Steve Minkoff to our elementary school team.  Their collective experience and love of teaching will be noticeable right from the start.

This year, we’ll be offering an event called Moms and Dads from Kinder to Grads just for our parents.  Parents and guardians will be invited to attend a coffee and donut hour for each of the levels (K-2, 3-5 and 6-8) during the school year.  The hour will be primarily for meeting other families with students in the same grade levels, but it will also include a short presentation on a relevant topic by one of our own Odyssey staff members.  Look for additional schedules in upcoming announcements and flyers.

Tuesday, September 30 – Intermediate grades parents (3rd – 5th), Internet Safety with Melody Jones (Family Advocate/School Social Worker) 8:30 – 9:30 AM Building 3

Tuesday, October 14 – Middle School parents (6th – 8th), Cyber Safety with Deneen Walters (Counselor) 8:30 – 9:30 AM Building 3

Testing News- Elementary families can take great pride knowing that our students’ academic achievement increased last year as evidenced by our review of the state testing data.  Hooray for our students, their parents and our teachers!  Our Middle School also made strong gains, with seventh grade demonstrating a major jump in performance.  With the additional customization of elementary school and the changes on campus for Middle School, we expect that our students will continue to show both academic achievement and of course, personal growth!

All Our Best,

Dr. Julie Charles, Principal                                                                  Mr. Gerry Born, Assistant Principal
